Dr. Robert M. Allen was raised in Northern Virginia and is a graduate of the University of Richmond. Following a successful and involved college career, he eventually pursued his interest in medicine and eye care at the prestigious Pennsylvania College of Optometry, earning a Bachelor of Science and Doctoral degrees. Upon graduation, he returned to Northern Virginia and began his career in private practice with the purchase of a small office in Chantilly. That was followed a year later when he started Ashburn Eyecare Associates, one of the largest practices in Loudoun County. Not long afterward he became a founding partner of Associates in Eyecare, which has eight offices in Northern Virginia and two in Washington, DC. Dr. Allen has continuously dedicated himself to professional development and is deeply committed to patient care and satisfaction.
In recognition of Dr. Allen’s early efforts, he was named the Virginia Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the Year in 2000. He has served as a clinical investigator for FDA phase III drug trials and has also served as a clinical evaluator for new contact lens designs. Currently, Dr. Allen lectures on clinical topics at continuing education conferences. As an acknowledgment of his academic and leadership achievements, he was named a fellow in the Virginia Academy of Optometry. Dr. Allen is a Past-President of the Virginia Optometric Association, and as the former President of the VOA, he is a nationally recognized leader of the profession. For Dr. Allen’s tireless efforts on behalf of his patients and the profession, he was named the Virginia Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the Year for 2017. He has also served as President of the Northern Virginia Optometric Society and served for eight years on its Executive Board. Dr. Allen’s other memberships include the American Optometric Association and its Contact Lens Section, as well as the American Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control.
Patients appreciate his lively and outgoing personality as well as his dedication and personalized attention to their care. His professional specialties include vast experience in difficult to fit contact lenses, treatment of eye diseases and surgical co-management. His many civic activities include currently serving as the vice-chair of the executive board at the Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, VA. In addition, Dr. Allen serves on the advisory board and as a lead pilot for Amelia Air Animal Rescue, flying rescue dogs all over the U.S. and internationally from foster homes to their new owners. Dr. Allen is an avid pilot, holding commercial, instrument and multi-engine ratings, as well as being a former SCCA race car driver. He lives in Loudoun County with his wife, daughter and two Goldendoodles.
Dr. Mallory Kuchem attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Highest Distinction in Biology. She graduated with both her Masters in Vision Science and her Doctor of Optometry degrees at Ohio State University.
Following her graduation, Dr. Kuchem spent several years practicing in Kansas City as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. While at KU, Dr. Kuchem helped build the ophthalmology department’s specialty contact lens practice. In 2014, she earned Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Kuchem thoroughly enjoys working with her patients to solve their visual needs and loves the lasting relationships created during that process. She lives in Vienna with her husband, Chad.
Dr. Jennifer Sun received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She then proceeded to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree.
Dr. Sun has extensive experience in primary care optometry with a special interest in pediatric eye care and ocular disease. She strives to develop long term relationships with patients and provide outstanding eye care services with very thorough eye exams. She has been practicing in Northern Virginia since 2009.
Dr. Sun enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and children.
Dr. Diana Slavin is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biology. Dr. Slavin is the daughter of a developmental optometrist, the late Dr. Sidney Slavin. Following her father’s lead, she graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
She began her career in Northern Virginia in private practice, where she honed her skills and interests in pediatrics and contact lenses. She joined Ashburn Eyecare Associates in 2003.
Patients love her outgoing demeanor and her dedication to their care. She and her husband are residents of Loudoun County and the proud parents of three children.
Dr. John W. Dresely, attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, before earning his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the Southern California College of Optometry.
In his over 25 year career, Dr. Dresely has practiced in several areas of Virginia, before returning to Northern Virginia several years ago. He has extensive experience in primary eye care, contact lenses, and treatment of eye diseases. His special area of interest is children’s vision and vision development.
He and his wife reside in Northern Virginia, and when he’s not in the office, he’s probably on the golf course.
Dr. Stacy Jaffe attended Eastern Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She then attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree.
After graduating, Dr. Jaffe moved to Washington, DC, where she currently resides. She has extensive training in primary care with a particular interest in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Jaffe is also Orthokeratology Certified by the manufacturers of several orthokeratology lens designers, a non-surgical alternative to refractive surgery.
In her spare time, Dr. Jaffe enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her husband.
Dr. Kelly Joedicke earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Dr. Joedicke graduated in the top ten percent of her class and was elected to Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society.
Prior to attending Buffalo State University, she received her A.A.S. in Ophthalmic Dispensing, which gives Dr. Joedicke extensive knowledge of fitting and adjusting lenses, frames, and contact lenses. Dr. Joedicke is a highly experienced doctor in both primary eye care as well as contact lens fitting and treating medical eye problems. She lives in South Riding with her husband and daughter.
Dr. Michael Kim was raised in the Northern Virginia area and attended James Madison University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree. Dr. Kim enjoys all aspects of primary care optometry, but has a special interest in dry eyes, contact lens, and ocular disease.
